Endless Summer — An Exceptional Year

On the heels of a cool, wet March, summery temperatures in April led to early budbreak along the Mosel. The vines reacted with extremely vigorous growth, which in turn called for intense canopy management in the vineyards. A stable high-pressure system then settled in over our region, ensuring warm temperatures and a striking lack of precipitation throughout the entire summer, leading to a very rapid ripening period from August on. Harvest began early, on 24 September. Conditions remained warm and dry as the grapes were brought in, with the deep-rooted vines handling the lack of precipitation just fine. Our fully healthy, golden yellow Riesling grapes seemed like something out of a fairy tale. The vintage delivered juicy wines with fantastic fruit and a marked creaminess.
