Considering that Riesling has been cultivated in the slaty soils of the Mosel for centuries, it comes as no surprise that 97% of Weingut Ansgar Clüsserath’s vineyards are planted with this variety . This high-quality white wine grape is particularly capable of reflecting the mineral character of the soils in which it grows. Fruity aromas in conjunction with marked acidity provide a framework within which the individual soil structures, expressed as saline nuances, lend the wines complexity and depth. The individual sites vary not only in terms of exposure and degree of steepness. In addition, numerous characteristics in the finished wines can be attributed to various components in each site’s soils, such as body, volume and fruit; or freshness, minerality, and grip.
